The crowd vs the connection

Everyone wants to be trendy. Not everyone wants to be a trendsetter — and the truth is, most trendsetters don’t even realize the influence they carry. They’re just living. Wearing what they want, saying what they want, doing what they want.

To live like that, a person needs one trait most humans wish they had — a special kind of “fuck it” that lets her move through the world without caring what anyone thinks.

She is that girl.

Wearing daisy dukes with a skirt and a shirt she just created, safety pins tailoring it to her fit. She might as well be wearing Balenciaga. Because just like that $2,000 Balenciaga skirt with paint splashed across the front, her daisy dukes are glittered in nail polish. A year old, but she did it first.

She is simply herself. No friends. No small talk. A hundred accessories. Her gift? Ignoring humans.

And that’s where the intimidation begins. Humans get uncomfortable around confidence. Intimidation is just confidence in motion.

They wouldn’t be intimidated if she wasn’t making eye contact, speaking professionally, and carrying that spark in her eyes — the spark that says she knows her worth. Jealousy becomes the autopilot of the entire scenario.

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs 13:20

Everyone has habits. Some shop. Some smoke. Some kill people. And whether humans admit it or not, they shape their lives around their vices.

But what happens when two humans meet who's amazing radiates the amazing in one another?

The Connection

Now trending together.

His brown eyes had her breathless — confused, with a story to tell. The way he couldn’t stop looking at her made her face heat up. That kind of admiration is exotic when she’s never felt it before.

When he got on his knees to put her shoes on… When he looked up at her with those gorgeous brown eyes… When she felt his presence across the room without one touch… It was euphoric.

One glance. That’s all it took to get lost in a human.

And it didn’t take long for everyone else to notice. Two trendsetters. Two languages. Two energies pulling toward each other like magnets.

January was the beginning. February was the hunger. He adored every smile, every glance, every kiss. She craved his brilliance, his arms, his everything.

The Shift

By February, she was already losing some habits — without trying. She didn’t need breaks outside anymore. He never asked her to stop. She never said she would. The healthy in him brought out the healthy in her.

But March changed everything.

Work started throwing thorns. Every time she spoke up, she was told it was “in her head.” Her logic turned into anxiety. Her butterflies stopped fluttering.

The glances of desire from across the room? They changed. Jealousy had entered the chat.

People noticed he wasn’t paying attention to his friends. People noticed she wasn’t entertaining the attention her beauty brought. Whispers grew. Eyes followed. Games started.

He drifted left. She watched the distance grow. She watched him lose his appetite for her.

She tried to warn him. He didn’t believe her — not over his friends.

The Decline

April: She didn’t recognize the man she fell in love with.

May: Arguments. Begging for love. Begging for attention. He didn’t like the “demanding nature,” but didn’t see he created it.

June: She was a mess. Crying. Lonely. Lost. Her mental health was deteriorating. He gave and took love depending on her behavior — a punishment system disguised as affection.

Then distance separated them. A depressed hell.

She still had to face the ones who took him from her. She avoided the break room. She avoided everything.

Time passed. Communication returned. She wanted more than anything to be what he wanted.

When he came back, his hug felt like January. It felt like February.

Until they walked in together.

Left and right — comments, whispers. She wasn’t the same woman she was on January 1st.

And then he told her to go away. He couldn’t even look her in the eyes.

She couldn’t believe he didn’t want her. Didn’t love her.

Until the moment the truth stood right in front of her — the situation she had been warning him about for months.

Her heart flooded. Her mind disoriented. Her future shattered.

It wasn’t in her head. It was real.

And in that moment, she knew:

She would never look at him the same again. And somewhere in the chaos… she lost her.

reflection

Her story didn’t break because the connection wasn’t real. It broke because the crowd around it was.

Scripture had already warned her:

“Bad company corrupts good character.” He didn’t change on his own — he changed because he let the wrong people shape him.

She walked with someone who awakened her best. He walked with people who awakened his worst.

And Proverbs told the truth before she lived it:

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

When she walked with him, she grew. When he walked with fools, she suffered.

Jealousy entered. Whispers replaced truth. The crowd became louder than the connection. And the man she loved became a reflection of the people around him.

She wasn’t losing her mind — she was losing herself in an environment designed to break her confidence.

And when the truth finally stood in front of her, she didn’t just lose him.

She lost the version of herself she was before the crowd corrupted the connection.

But Scripture leaves her with one final promise:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”

She may have lost herself in the chaos, but her crown — her confidence, her spark, her worth — was never theirs to take.

Now that the truth is clear, she rises again — wiser, sharper, and spiritually awake.
